PORTFOLIO
Guidance
On The Development And
Production Of The Portfolio
Although there is no prize for the portfolio it is an important part
of your entry. It gives you the
opportunity to show the judges
the effort and progress you have
made throughout the whole year’s
campaign
CONTENT
¨
Index/contents
sheet with numbered pages
¨
Judging day
itinerary, include where special
awards are to be seen.
¨
A brief
introduction/resume about your
entry including the names and
roles of your committee members.
¨
It should be
thought of as a diary or record
of the tasks and events that
have taken place over the past
twelve months. Include, wherever
possible, before and after
photographs, dated and
relatively recent i.e. not more
than two years old.
N.B. As there is limited
space do not fill with things
the judges are shown on the day,
e.g. hanging baskets, summer
bedding, etc.
Do show winter bedding, bulb planting, pruning, etc.
¨
(Villages)Show
your achievements to date and
your intentions/goals for the
future.
(Towns and Cities) Show your outline Policy and Strategy
plans, these might include or
outline key objectives and
approach for the next 12 month
period alongside longer-term
aims for ‘In Bloom’ delivery.
Ensure these include any
partnerships and community
participation plans, education
aims and preparations for future
development.
¨
A lot of marks are
gained from involvement of the
community, therefore show
year-round effort of people
actually getting involved in
projects outside of the summer
e.g. litter picks, bulb
planting, etc,.
¨
Show how your ‘In
Bloom’ is funded such as coffee
mornings, fetes, bring and buy,
etc,.
¨
Press coverage is
also important but don’t fill
the portfolio with press
cutting. Keep a balance, (press
cuttings could be used on
display boards to showcase your
in bloom activity, these could
then be examined during the
judges comfort break if they so
wish).
N. B. Only use original press cutting, not photocopies see note on
press cuttings page 22.
THE MAKE-UP
¨
The size to be A4
and NO MORE than 15
sheets of paper which, if
used double sided, will give 30
pages.
¨
Remember size of
font used for your text can make
a big difference to the number
of words you can accommodate on
the page, e.g. 12 point = Anglia
in Bloom,
11 point = Anglia in Bloom,
10 point = Anglia in Bloom.
Don’t however;
go too small,
the judges do after all need to
be able to read
the
document. The optimum
size would possibly be11 point.
¨
It does not have
to be professionally designed,
there are no marks awarded for
the portfolio presentation. Do
however keep it simple, clear
and to the point, concentrate on
content detail which
demonstrates your community’s
efforts to create improvements
to your local environment.
Keep layout as marking sheets
i.e. Section A, year round
effort together. Section B, year
round effort together, and so on
through to Section E. This makes
reading easier and
¨
therefore giving
marks appropriately, perhaps
colour coding for each section
e.g. Section A – Blue, Section B
– Yellow, Section C – Green,
Section D – Red and Section E –
Pink.
¨
Covers (Not
counted as part of the 30
sheets), front and back, should
be thin card. Front to have name
of entrant and year.
